MESSI CREATES UNWANTED LA LIGA RECORD

Barca maintained their lead at the top of the Spanish top-flight with a hard-fought victory over the league's high-flyers as Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba secured the three points.

Meanwhile, their attacking talisman failed to get on the scoresheet but hit the post just before the half-time whistle.

In doing so, Messi has now set a LaLiga record for hitting the woodwork more times than any other player in a single season, with the tally now standing at 14.

Despite this record, the 30-year-old has scored 27 goals and registered 15 assists in 37 games across all competitions.
